Course Overview

This course provides structured preparation for CSEC Visual Arts, combining practical production, SBA portfolio development, and theory through the Reflective Journal.

Students will develop:
– Practical artistic skills (2D & 3D forms)
– Creative expression and originality
– Portfolio (SBA) development
– Reflective Journal (theory, process and practice)
– Exam readiness for Production Papers

Course Content

WEEK 1 – FOUNDATION & CORE SKILLS

Overview
Introduction to Visual Arts concepts and expressive forms.

– Elements and principles of design

– Introduction to expressive forms (2D & 3D)

– Observational drawing basics

– Introduction to Reflective Journal

WEEK 2 – TWO-DIMENSIONAL EXPRESSIVE FORMS

Overview
Development of 2D art skills and techniques.

– Drawing (shading, contour, composition)

– Painting and mixed media
– Graphic design (logos, posters, layout)

– Printmaking techniques

– Textile design basics

WEEK 3 – THREE-DIMENSIONAL EXPRESSIVE FORMS

Overview

Exploration of 3D art and craft production.

– Sculpture and ceramics

– Leathercraft basics

– Fibre and decorative arts

– Use of materials and tools safely

WEEK 4 – SBA & EXAM PREPARATION

Overview
Final preparation for exams and portfolio completion.

– SBA portfolio (6 pieces: 3 per expressive form)

– Reflective Journal (1000+ words, research + visuals)

– Production Paper practice (timed)

– Critique and final improvements
