CSEC CARIBBEAN HISTORY

Course Overview

This course provides a complete and focused preparation for CSEC Caribbean History, covering the Core and selected Themes in one streamlined programme.

Students will develop:
– Strong understanding of Caribbean historical events and timelines
– Ability to analyse causes, effects and historical perspectives
– Skills in essay writing and source-based questions
– SBA research and project development skills
– Confidence for Paper 1, Paper 2 and SBA

Course Content

WEEK 1 – THE CORE: FOUNDATION OF CARIBBEAN HISTORY

Overview
Students build an overview of major Caribbean developments.

– Indigenous Peoples and European arrival

– Slavery and plantation society

– Resistance and emancipation

– Post-emancipation society and peasantry

WEEK 2 – SECTION A THEMES

Overview
Students explore early Caribbean history and slavery.

– Indigenous Peoples and Europeans

– Caribbean economy and slavery

– Resistance and revolt

– Key events and case studies

WEEK 3 – SECTION B THEMES

Overview

Students examine post-emancipation developments.

– Movements towards emancipation

– Adjustments after emancipation

– Caribbean economy (1875–1985)

– Social and economic changes

WEEK 4 – SECTION C THEMES & EXAM PREP

Overview
Students connect history to modern Caribbean development.

– United States in the Caribbean

– Political development and independence

– Caribbean society (1900–1985)

– Exam practice (Paper 1 + Essay + SBA guidance)
