CSEC GEOGRAPHY

Course Overview

This course provides a complete and focused preparation for CSEC Geography, combining physical, human, and practical geography into one streamlined programme.

Students will develop:
– Strong map reading & interpretation skills
– Understanding of Caribbean and global environments
– Knowledge of population, resources, and development
– Ability to answer structured and essay questions confidently

Course Content

WEEK 1 – MAP WORK & GEOGRAPHICAL SKILLS

Overview
Students build core skills in reading, interpreting, and analysing maps, essential for Paper 2 and SBA.

– Map reading (scale, distance, direction)

– Grid references & coordinates

– Relief & contour interpretation

– Map symbols, features & basic fieldwork skills

WEEK 2 – PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY (THE NATURAL WORLD)

Overview
Students explore Earth’s natural systems and how landforms and climates shape the Caribbean.

– Types of rocks & rock cycle

– Landforms (volcanoes, rivers, coasts)

– Weather, climate & climate change

– Natural hazards (earthquakes, hurricanes, flooding)

WEEK 3 – HUMAN & ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHY

Overview
Focus on how people interact with the environment and how resources support development.

– Population distribution & migration

– Settlement patterns (urban vs rural)

– Economic activities (agriculture, industry, tourism)

– Environmental issues (pollution, sustainability)

WEEK 4 – DEVELOPMENT, RESOURCES & EXAM PREPARATION

Overview
Students connect all topics to real-world development and prepare for exams.

– Use of natural resources (renewable vs non-renewable)

– Sustainable development & conservation

– Caribbean development challenges

– Exam practice (Paper 1 & Paper 2 techniques)
